A Few Trance Tracks

So my parents recently traded in their chevy suburban for a malibu. I was pretty upset about it until I found out that the malibu has a 2 month free subscription to Sirius Satellite Radio, which includes the channel Electric Area. After driving around in our new malibu all Thanksgiving break and listening to EA, I was introduced to the genre of Trance. After listening to Armin Van Buuren's (who was recently named the world's number one DJ) "State of Trance 5" which was released a week ago, I am officially hooked on it. It is sophisticated, but still makes you want to dance. Many Trance tracks are rather long, but when they peak they are amazing and throw down incredible beats. These tracks are probably not ideal for throwing a small pre game with your buddies. But if you are looking for good, upbeat music ideal for late night dancing, getting work done, or just trying to get jacked up, give these tracks a listen. They won't disappoint.

"Ballanation 04 (Club Mix)" - DJ Dean
Bonafide HEATERRR. This one really bangs...MUST DOWNLOAD

"Speed Rail" - Tiesto
Tiesto is one of world's best known DJ's. Here is some of his finer work

"Out of Darkness" - Fire & Ice
Really fast-paced upbeat track

"In And Out Of Love" - Armin Van Buuren feat. Sharon den Adel
The world's #1 DJ throwing down some heat...This one is probably one of the more commercial-friendly ones, you could throw this on at a pregame fo sho

The next few are from Armin's "State of Trance 5" and are all fire

"Without You (Dub Mix) - Dogzilla
Probably my favorite, download this track

"Touched By The Sun" - Envio
"Legacy (Club Mix)" - Push
"Sail" - Armin Van Buuren
"Exactly (Original Mix)" - John O'Callaghan and Kearney
"Cosmicstring (Original Mix)" - Marcos
"Deep Psychosis (Daniel Kandi's Cure Mix)" - Luke Warner & Mat Lock
Pretty sick video for this one too...

Throwdown Thursday is here!!!

Here is the final installment to our countdown to Throwdown Thursday, which as I mentioned is tonight and three of our favorite acts, Pretty Lights, Rebelution, and Bassnectar are all playing tonight in VA. Parts 1 and 2 featured the first two of those three...Today we have for you a few select tracks from my favorite live DJ, Bassnectar. Here's a brief description of Bassnectar from their facebook page

"Bassnectar combines sound and force with weight while spanning the spectrum of sonic style, covering every genre imaginable, and smashing it all into a collision of wobbling, perverted basslines, hypnotic hide-and-seek adventures, and pretty much anything that strikes his fancy. He calls the end product “omnitempo maximalism,” which basically means no rules, no limitations, and no hesitation in fusing the familiar with the strange or the classic with the cutting edge."

Basically, this music throws down super hard. As in the name, it is heavily bass-filled and thus requires sup woofers for ideal listening. This music is not meant for chillin to, it is meant to GET DOWN with, so keep that in mind next time you throw it on at a party. Without further ado...

"Bass Head" - Bassnectar
Ill beat in this one

"Bomb Tha Blocks" - Bassnectar (feat. Persia)
Probably the chillest of the bunch here, this features underground MC Persia. 'Nectar lays down the beat and Persia provides the flow. Straight fire

Cool music vid too, check it out

"Cozza Frenzy (Bassnectar's Mega-Bass Remix)" - Bassnectar
HEAVY ass bass on this one. Bring the subssss

"Here We Go" - Bassnectar
Incredible buildup and drop on this track

"Blow (feat. Kyrian)" - Bassnectar
Awesome beat on this one...real head banger

"Kyrian Bee Bop" - Bassnectar
This is the first dubstep I've ever heard. Pretty simple yet catchy

"LSD" - Bassnectar
Remix of the Beatles classic "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" here. Absolutely absurd what he does to it...so awesome

"Teleport Massive (Remix)" - Bassnectar
Ultra-heater...get nastyyyy

Another solid track from Cee Lo, the guy who brought us the hit "Fuck You!" He shows here the he is far from a one-hit wonder

"Something About Us (Shaprece Reprise)" - Daft Punk
Slow Daft Punk jam here, real funky and sweet

"Let Me Take You Out" - Bryan J and Travis Porter
Really upbeat, feel good hip hop on this one

"Hold On" - Knight Riderz
Defintion of BANGER here. Ridiculous beat...Knight Riderz have a crunchy glitchy sound, similar to the Glitch Mob

"Narcotic" - DJ Gollum vs. Basslovers United
Sickkk poppy house track here, really upbeat...good energy all around

"Unleash The Fucking Dada" - Dada Life
House HEATER. This track throws down superrrrr hard

The name says it all...this is West Coast Hip Hop/Electronica at its finest

Counting down to Throwdown Thursday, part 1

Our first installment for the countdown to Throwdown Thursday features a few tracks from Pretty Lights. To get a better idea of what Pretty Lights is, here is a description from Jambase.com

"Pretty Lights is the musical vision of the ultra-versatile Colorado based producer Derek Vincent Smith, accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Cory Eberhard. Together these two achieve a raw energy rarely reached in the realm of electronic music.

At a time when music lovers from almost all subcultures and genres are finding common ground in the basic form of bangin' beats, Pretty Lights is giving the people what they want; electro organic cutting-edge party rocking beats that fill venues with energy and emotion and send dance floors into frenzies"

Pretty much sums it up...they throw in a ton of different samples and blend them with the dopest beats to create musical masterpieces. Here are some choice picks

"Finally Moving (Remix)" - Pretty Lights
This track includes a sample of 20th century Gospel/Soul singer Etta James, who has an incredible. Then it throws down a sweet guitar lick, followed by some bangin' beats. This is probably their signature song

"Hot Like Sauce" - Pretty Lights
My personal favorite, this track throws several different voice samples, blending it with some dope beats. It constantly evolves throughout the song and is a true masterpiece. My personal favorite part comes at around the 3:15 mark, when it goes into a glitched out hip hop voice sample that no words can be made out from but still sounds amazing. Go hyphy in dis bitchhhhh

"Up And Down I Go" - Pretty Lights
Starts off a little slow but once the beat drops its amazing. Great dance track

"Let The World Hurry By" - Pretty Lights
A little more laid back than the previous three, which bang pretty hard. This one is suuuuuper groooooovyy

"Total Fascination" - Pretty Lights
This one samples LL Cool J's "Who Shot Ya." Not sure who the vocal sample is at the beginning of the track but she has an incredible voice. This one bangs real harddd

"Fly Away Another Day" - Pretty Lights
This track takes a little longer than some of the others to pick up, but once it does it is absolute fire. at about the 2:40 mark they throw in some glitched out Biggie samples which sounds so fuckin raw

"Final Countdown (Live Mix)" - Pretty Lights
Last New Years Eve, PL threw down this mix counting down to the new year. Derek threw it together last minute and it is absolute fire...it is a remix of the Europe classic "Final Countdown" that was featured in the Rocky series. Up and coming artist Trey Palms raps over this beat in a track we already posted here. Anyway...The first drop is absolutely ridiculous, and then it goes on for about 14 min of straight heat. It's a live mix but the sound quality is superb nonetheless...I would be totally down to come out to the field with this song this year

"Let Em Know It's Time To Flow" - DJ Tip-Z
"She Wants Pretty Lights Babies" - JDubsssss
These last two are mashups that feature beats thrown down by Pretty Lights mashed up with other artists, ideal for those who like more vocals in their music. The first one is the PL track "Let Em Know It's Time To Go" and includes artists like Biggie and Tupac in it. The second is PL's "Aiming At Your Head" mashed up with the Ace of Base classic "All That She Wants." So fucking hotttttt

That's all for part 1...parts 2 and 3 for the countdown to Throwdown Thursday coming soon, stay tooned.....

Jamtronica comin' atcha

So I went to see the Disco Biscuits last night, which for those who don't know is a really sweet jam band/electronic group from Philly who throw down some great jams. They are best heard live, but have a couple catchy studio recorded tracks as well.

"Home Again" - The Disco Biscuits
"On Time" - The Disco Biscuits
Here are two solid album recorded tracks

"Gone Gone Gone" - The New Deal
"Don't Blame Yourself" - The New Deal feat. Feist
These two tracks feature a group called the New Deal. I saw them this past summer at All Good Music Festival. They are similar to tDB in that they are electronically influenced and improvise live and throw down some illllll beats. They are playing here in Charlottesville this Friday and I plan on attending and would encourage others to do the same. The first track has no vocals but throws down an incredible beat that I'm sure many will recognize, and is more indicative of their style when seen live. The second one features Feist as the vocalist and is considerably more pop-influenced, but still throws down pretty hard.

"Hello (Dada Life Remix)" - Martin Solvieg & Dragonette
"Volcano (Zeds Dead Remix)" - Dragonette
BTW Dan Kurtz, the bassist/producer from the New Deal, double times as the producer for the electronic pop group Dragonette. I already posted their track "I Get Around" here. Here are two more hottt tracks from Dragonette

Oh and just a heads up, this week is a big week for concerts around here, between Bisco last night, New Deal on Friday, as well as Bassnectar AND Pretty Lights playing the same night in Richmond this Thursday (such a shame they are playing the same night in the same town but at different venues, I am torn at which one to attend) as well as Rebelution playing Thursday in Charlottesville (another possible option) this week will be rockin'. For that reason I will be posting my favorite tracks from those three acts this week to get ready for Throwdown Thursday. Stay tuned...
